Statement on Wildfire Situation in British Columbia

Ottawa, ON — The below statement is attributable to Sebastian Skamski, Director of Media Relations to the Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition:

Due to the seriousness of the situation in British Columbia, we have made the decision to postpone our upcoming tour of the province. Our priorities are to support British Columbians fighting these devastating wildfires.

Our thoughts are with all the people who have had to flee their homes. Conservatives stand with all those impacted and will work to support these communities as they fight these fires and as they rebuild afterwards.

Thank you to the heroic first responders and firefighters working around the clock to save lives and protect our communities. Thank you also to the generous Canadians opening their doors and providing shelter to people in their time of need.

The Province of British Columbia has specifically asked for donations to be made to food banks. You can find a link to donate to the Central Okanagan Food Bank here:

https://cofoodbank.com/donate/  We look forward to visiting the province again in the coming weeks. British Columbia, we stand with you.
